A late 18th-century poly chrome painted deep plate in shades of deep cobalt, yellow, green and an unusual purple. The center well holds a beautifully stylistic bouquet of English wildflowers flowers fastened by a blue ribbon. These large decorative dishes, often called chargers, were popular, and included much of the most ambitious painting, often stretching the artists to the edge of their capabilities, and beyond. The charger is tin-glazed on the front with a lead-glazed underside which is indicative of the process during this period. There are numerous pinhole glaze pops which is indicative of the manufacturing during this period. Also note presence of saggar peg marks on underside underscoring age and authenticity. PROVENANCE: From the collection of Louis Gautier, Casa Rossa Gallery, Chelsea, London, England 1925-1928 CONDITION: Outstanding condition with only a few of the expected minor rim chips.
